At Unique Family Dentistry, we strive to accommodate all of our patients. Numerous studies indicate that a large percentage of individuals experience fear or apprehension about going to the dentist. Sometimes it is a fear of pain, but there is also anxiety caused by having someone inspecting and cleaning the teeth.
To help our patients feel more relaxed at our comfortable office, we now offer sedation dentistry via laughing gas at our office in Linden, NJ. This is a simple and easy treatment that can added to regular procedures for individuals who need a little help feeling comfortable while in the dentist’s chair.
What Is Laughing Gas?
Laughing gas is a gas that a patient can inhale before a procedure. It does not cause a lack of consciousness but instead fills the individual with a sense of intense calm and happiness. The most common side effect is laughing or giggling, hence where the gas earned its name.
At Unique Family Dentistry, we offer laughing gas before and during treatment for individuals who struggle to stay calm or relaxed during exams, cleanings, and other procedures.
How to Receive
If you are interested in having laughing gas used during your appointment, please tell our office staff when scheduling. We can make a note of your preference and have everything set up when you arrive for your visit.
Who Can Use It?
Laughing gas is available to most of our patients. The only exceptions are those who have a phobia or bad reaction to wear a face mask, someone with a lung condition like emphysema, and anyone who has had a documented bad reaction to the gas. If you have a lung condition, please inform our office. We might be able to accommodate you and treat the anxiety during your visit in another way.
How Long Does It Last?
Laughing gas is a quick-acting sedative. It starts to work within minutes of being inhaled, but a patient needs to continue inhaling to feel the effects. The sedation wears off about 30 to 60 seconds once the mask is removed.
